Ninjas on the run, looking for work in China
Ninjas are the latest group of Chinese backpackers to flee their country amid escalating concerns over Beijing’s human rights record, which includes an ongoing crackdown on the movement of workers in the construction industry.
According to the Chinese government, between 300,000 and 400,000 people have left the country since the beginning of 2017, and many of them are in China’s second-largest city, Beijing.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington told Reuters that the number of “unaccompanied backpackers” in China has risen since mid-April to between 7,000 to 8,000.
The United States has taken in over half of them, according to the State Department, which has since sent a team to investigate.
Many of them have been caught and deported by the Chinese authorities, while others have managed to reach the United States via other countries.
The situation has forced many of the Chinese tourists who stayed in the United State to flee, according a source who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity.
“It is very difficult for us to go back and find work, because we don’t have any experience in the city,” the source said.
“Most of them don’t speak English.
They’re scared.”
The number of migrant workers in China is estimated at more than half a million, according the U.S. State Department.
More than 300,0000 people are working in the country, according at least one government website.
Many people rely on social assistance to survive, and some of the migrants say they have been denied jobs or forced to work unpaid.
“I just feel like I’m living in a nightmare,” said an American tourist surnamed Liu, who did not want to give her surname, saying she had not received a single visa offer.
“I’ve been in the U of A for 10 years and I can’t find a job.
They have no interest in me.”
The migrant worker in Beijing, who spoke on condition he not be identified, told Reuters he had not yet received a job offer after three months of looking for one.
“We went to work, but the next day they started taking away our passports,” he said.
While there are few signs that the government is cracking down on the migrant workers, the migrant worker said that Chinese officials are also taking measures to prevent them from getting to the United Stated.
“There are some very strict rules in the Chinese labor market, and if you’re not willing to comply, you’re being punished,” he added.
“It’s really difficult to find work because they don’t want you to get in trouble.
If you want to work in the factory, you can’t get your visa.
If there’s a dispute, you have to file a complaint with the local labor office.”
The United Nations says at least 5,500 people have died in the last year as a result of trafficking, including at least 400 in the case of a Chinese migrant worker who died from an illness.
The UN also said in a statement that it has identified at least 10 migrant workers who have been exploited by the construction companies that employ them, and the Chinese embassy in Washington did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
